Letter 1 from William Selkirk
After his return from Australia William Jones received two letters from William Selkirk, a general dealer in Melbourne. Selkirk had clearly been a friend in Australia, and gives news about several mutual acquaintances. This is probably the first of the two letters, although we cannot be certain as the first page of the second letter, which would have included the date of writing, is missing. The letter was carried by the Royal Charter, which was destroyed in a storm just off Anglesey in 1859 with great loss of life.
