William Humphreys Jones

William Humphreys Jones was born on 12 February 1861 at Stanley House, Holyhead, Anglesey, and died on 12 September 1940. He was the only son of William Jones (Glybcoed) and Anne Humphreys.

He married Eleanor Catharine Parry on 20 November 1890 at Horeb Chapel, Brynsiencyn, Anglesey.

He was father to Leslie William Jones, Glyn Frank Jones, Doris Griffith Jones (Hudson) and Alwynne Humphreys Jones.

He went to East Africa in 1911 and worked for East African Estates at Tiwi in what is now Kenya. He trained Kikuyu straight from the bush to plant maize and tend crops.

He went out on the Union Castle ‘Caernarvon Castle’ and returned in 1915 after an injury sustained when his eyesight was impaired.

He was influenced to go to East Africa by a friend Col (later Gen) Owen Thomas.
