Britannia Metal Bowl
This Britannia metal bowl inscribed “R. Broadhead” on its base was made by the Sheffield firm of Rogers Broadhead in the 1830’s (see letter Robert F. Atkins, FLA, Director of Dept. of Local History & Archives, Central Library, Surrey Street, Sheffield, ref. LS:SP:B dated 14 July 1975).
It was originally in the possession of Mrs. Anne Hughes (1772-1838) at Rallt, Llangaffo, Anglesey. Thence it came to Llyslew, parish of Llanidan, Anglesey through Elinor, daughter of John and Anne Hughes of Rallt. She married William Jones and the bowl was used as a sugar bowl. It then came from Catherine Jones (later Black, later Parry, 1828-1898) one of the Llyslew daughters to her daughter Elinor Catharine Parry (1865-1925) who married William Humphreys Jones (1861-1940) of Treifan. Their son Alwynne Humphreys Jones next owned it. In 1975 he gave it to his nephew Ellis William Parry Jones, who had a broken handle repaired.
