Antique Oak Welsh Dresser

This antique oak Welsh dresser base dates from the reign of Queen Anne. It was originally at Llaneuddog, parish of Llanwenllwyfo, Anglesey and owned by the Humphreys family. It had a working-top of sycamore which still covers the base. Through Anne Humphreys (1817-1887) who married William Jones, it came to Treifan, Brynsiencyn, Anglesey. It then passed to their only son William Humphreys Jones (1861-1940) and to his son Alwynne Humphreys Jones.

In 1975 he bought the antique oak dresser top at a sale in London. It is also very old, but not so old as the dresser base. The same year he gave it to his nephew Ellis William Parry Jones who brought it to his house, 33 Liverpool Road, Chester.
