Notes on Mrs Elizabeth Carmichael’s letter of 14 Feb. 1877 to her sister.
My Brother: Dr. Thomas Humphreys of Bangor, Caerns.
Margred: Miss Margaret Humphreys (1820-1891). sister of Elizabeth Carmichael and of Dr. Thomas Humphreys. In the 1851 and 1861 Census returns she was listed as Housekeeper in her brother’s house at Bangor. In the 1871 Census she was Housekeeper at Cefn Forest, Llansannan, Denbs. to John H. Price aged 28, a bailiff over 300 acres. He was her nephew.
Dr Humphreys was taken ill on Sat. 10 Feb. and Sunday 11 Feb. On Monday 12 Feb. he left for London by the Mail train. At 11 p.m. he was met at Rhyl by Mrs Ellen M. Humphreys (daughter of Mrs Elizabeth Carmichael) of the Cambrian Hotel, Abergele. Ellen returned the same night.
Charles Hannah (1851-1931), a son of Peter and Margaret Hannah (a daughter of Mrs Elizabeth Carmichael) had qualified M.P.S. in 1872. He met Dr. Humphreys and Ellen at 5 a.m. in London on Tuesday 13 Feb.
On Friday 16 Feb., Mrs Margaret Humphreys and Ellen were due to go to London to stay with the ill doctor for a few days. Ellen was due to return early the following week.
