(Sunday). I was home. Write a letter to Owen to London. Been as far as Sardis chapel with my brother John. (Note: William Jones’ brother Owen was baptized on 9 March 1817 at Llangristiolus church and was a twin of Thomas. Owen subsequently emigrated to Lanesville, Mass., U.S.A. Letters from him describing life there to his family at home at Glybcoed still exist.)

(Monday). I was plowing this morning. In the afternoon stop home with my brother Thomas.

(Tuesday). I was plowing all this day. At night go with Thomas to Penysarn to OP’s house.

(Wednesday). I was plowing all this day in the same field.

(Thursday). I was plowing all this day. At night go to Amlwch to some supper to the ship on the black pony.
Thomas left home.

Gwener (Friday). Blowing very hard last night (rain this day). I was plowing this morning. In the afternoon go to the Port round been with Conner and been in Parys farm for money and go to the Port to get some timber from Liverpool, grinding stone and get wet.

Sadwrn (Saturday). Rough weather. I sent 8:2:3:2 to Dulas mill for 13s per qr. In the afternoon plowing with Brown & Nico. R Ann sister was here. I sent them to Porth Gadfa. Come back with WR, Ty canol.

Llun (Monday). Fine day. I was plowing with Boos and Nico this morning. In the afternoon Boos was sick and I was plowing with Nico and resatd.

Mawrth (Tuesday). Rain. I was plowing all this day with Boos and Nico, and at night think to go to Amlwch and stop at Penysarn. OP and Joh, gof (have) been fighting.

Iau (Thursday). Fine day. I was in the Thomas’ smithy with David Roberts. Make a new cart to go to the mountain and in the afternoon plow.

Gwener (Friday). Rough weather. I have been in Llanerchymedd. Mend the plow. Winnowing 9 qr:9. Gybos sold the old sow. (It) snows very fast.

Sadwrn (Saturday). Fair. I was carting 2 loads of muck with Boos and True, and go to Amlwch on True. Been in Frondeg about plow.

Sul (Sunday). Frost. I was home all this day minding the horses.

Munday. Fine. Frost. I have been in Thomas’ smithy with Boos and Nico and plowing with Boos and True till 3 o’clock and go to Frondeg. Send 2 bills and come home through Amlwch. Been in Penysarn Lodge.

Mawrth (Tuesday). Fine day. I have been to fetch new cart for True and send her to Frondeg. Been there 4 days and have £12:12 and come home and go to pay the tithe £6:6s.

Mercher (Wednesday). Fine weather. I was fetching 3 loads of stones for drains in cae frwd fadog. In the afternoon go to Fron with Brown plowing the Gander.

Iau (Thursday). Dry. I have been fetching 1 load of stones for the drain and after that go to the plowing match and won it.

Gwener (Friday). Dry from the North-east. I was plowing all this day with Brown and Nico in pen uchaf cae mawr.

Sadwrn (Saturday). Ditto. I was plowing all this day. Finish pen uchaf with Boos and Nico and True was carting muck.

Saturday. Fine day. I was plowing the field where the potatoes were this morning. We received a letter from Liverpool and I went there with the Mail.

Tuesday. Fine. There was a large fire here this morning. (Note: the fire occurred at the foundry of Messrs. Fawcett and Preston in Suffolk Street, Liverpool on 7 March 1843. A full account of the fire appeared in the Liverpool Mercury of 10 March 1843. A photo-copy of this was kindly provided by the Liverpool Archivist.)

Saturday. Rain. I sowed 2 sacks of oats this morning and went to Amlwch about 9 o’clock. Been with O. Jones, Ty mawr in the windmill with the gig. Change a mare for a week. Been in Fron. Have £9:10. Come home at 8 o’clock. Have a (pair) of new shoes from 11 John Obry.

Monday. I was making ridges in cae crussul with Ty mawr mare. Sow 2 sacks. Fetch load of gorse from Ty mawr.

Gwener (Friday). I finished pen uchaf cae frwd fadog. O. Williams, Llyslew came. (Note: pen uchaf – Welsh for the upper end; Owen Williams, Llyslew was William Jones’ cousin. He was born in Llanidan parish on 30 Oct. 1819 and baptized as Owen Williams Jones at Gaerwen chapel on 4 Nov. 1819. He subsequently emigrated to Australia.)

Mercher (Wednesday). Showers. I was home all this day. Spread the old hedge for potatoes. Uncle and aunt, Penrhynoer were here. (Note: William Jones’ uncle John Jones of Penrhynoer, Llangwyllog, was the brother of David Jones, Glybcoed. He was baptized at Llanddaniel on 12 April 1775 and died on 29 August 1864 aged 90. He was buried at Llangwyllog church. His wife Margaret nee Lewis died on 15 June 1863 aged 86 and was also buried at Llangwyllog.)
